at the start...

of this adventure, we really weren't ready to share our little boy with the world yet. as he grows, we're ready now...
baby luke came bursting into the world on april 23 at 1138am, a thursday.
i won't go into all the details that lead of to this glorious event, just know that they were NOT glorious. luke wasn't supposed to come to us for another 13 weeks, but like myself and dad, patience does not seem to be a strong attribute. ...but with tribulation comes patience, so we have all had a good dose since his arrival.
luke was 2 pounds and 8.9 ounces, 15 inches long. he did not come screaming into the world like all those fat pink babies in movies. he was, thankfully, pink, but as flaccid as a little rag doll. what was supposed to be a private birth where gregg and i could celebrate the little life we made turned into organized chaos...multiple l&d staff and about 25 nicu participants, all of which i remember not one face much less a name as i was watching the little body they transferred from me to the tiny warmer. little luke was intubated and brought to life in that warmer, but because of the tube in his throat giving him air, we never heard that cry for which every parent holds their breath. he was whisked away to the nicu and i waited for my room.
shortly after the move to mom/baby, dad was able to go to nicu and finally see our little boy.
